Video of Police Extracting Testimony with Tear Gas and Batons Sent to Special Investigative Service

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia has initiated an investigation into a widely circulated video on the internet and social media, showing apparent police violence against an individual. This investigation was launched immediately after the video became available. The video, along with related media publications, has been sent to the Special Investigative Service of Armenia for further examination and determination of the procedure, in accordance with articles 180-181 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.

In the video that has emerged online, police are seen using tear gas and batons to extract testimony.

The incident has drawn the attention of Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, who stated, “Criminal proceedings must be initiated immediately regarding this video. All investigative actions should be carried out strictly within the framework of the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia. I will send an official letter to the prosecuting authority under my signature. The process will be under my close scrutiny within the maximum limits of the Human Rights Defender's jurisdiction,” Tatoyan wrote on Facebook.
