On the Basis of Kocharyan’s Defenders' Application, the Bar Association Appeals to the Prime Minister

On March 1, the defendants' attorneys for Robert Kocharyan have filed an application with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the Minister of Justice, Rustam Badasyan. The attorneys, including Haik Alumyanyan, Ruben Sahakyan, Aram Orbelian, Aram Vardevanyan, and Hovhannes Khudoyan, approached the Bar Association on October 25.

The Bar Association's press service informed the media that the defense lawyers had requested measures to prevent any offensive statements from citizens during their defense, as well as to have the police respond to the actions of those citizens. Consequently, based on this request, the Bar Association reached out to the Prime Minister on October 30, asking for effective measures to prevent behaviors which involved insults and slander against lawyers in relation to their professional activities.

Additionally, the Bar Association requested the Minister of Justice to propose legislative amendments to include “Insulting a Lawyer in Relation to Their Professional Activities” in the Armenian Criminal Code.
