Italy Scores 9 Goals in a Single Match for First Time in 71 Years

Italy achieved a historic feat during their match against the Armenian national football team. This is the first time in 71 years that the 'Azzurri' have scored 9 goals in a single match. The last occurrence was in 1948 when they defeated the USA 9:0 during the Olympic Games.

Italy has only scored more goals in a match against Egypt, which happened 20 years prior to the aforementioned game, back in 1928, with a score of 11:3.

The match against Armenia was also significant for Italy in another way, as it marked their 11th consecutive victory, setting a historic record. The previous record was 9 consecutive wins, achieved in 1938.

In the Euro 2020 qualifying phase, Italy showcased a perfect performance with 10 matches, 10 victories, and 30 points. They secured their place in Euro 2020 by finishing first in Group J. The second spot was taken by Finland, which ended with 18 points from 10 matches. Armenia finished the qualifying phase in second to last place with 10 points.
