Police Identify Individual Who Extracted Water from Lake Azhdahak
After receiving reports about water extraction from the glacial lake at the peak of Azhdahak Mountain (Red Mountain peak), the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body (EMIB) contacted the police to identify the person responsible for the extraction.
In a conversation with Hetq, the head of the information and public outreach department of the inspection body, Naira Aghababyan, stated that the police have already found the individual, and the inspection body is conducting an administrative proceeding, the results of which, according to EMIB, will be made public in 10 days. No further details were provided by the inspection body.
It is worth mentioning that in October, the “Democratic Alliance” initiative reported on its Facebook page that some farmers engaged in livestock farming in the Geghama Mountains have been using water from the glacial lake at the peak of Azhdahak Mountain through a pipeline approximately 5 kilometers long since 2018, to supply their livestock and meet their own needs. This could lead to the desertification of the lake, which in turn would disrupt the region's ecosystem. The announcement was accompanied by photos showing the presence of the pipelines as well as images representing the current and past conditions.
