Current Authorities Have Political Will to Fight Corruption More Than Ever: Hambardzumyan

Today, the National Assembly discussed the issue of electing members of the Anti-Corruption Commission. The Prosperous Armenia faction proposed the candidacy of Narek Hambardzumyan as a member of the commission.

Narek Hambardzumyan, born in 1984, has been working as an investigator since 2013 and is currently an investigator dealing with particularly important cases in the Anti-Corruption, Property Crimes, and Cyber Crimes Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

MP Sargis Khandanian from the My Step faction asked Hambardzumyan about his connection with the Prosperous Armenia party and why his candidacy was proposed. Hambardzumyan responded that he had no connection to the party and could only speculate on why his candidacy was put forward. He believes that the faction considered his personality, education, experience, and his character as a public official in society.

MP Hayk Gevorgyan from the My Step faction, considering that Hambardzumyan has worked as an investigator since 2013, inquired whether there have been cases where he investigated individuals based on political motives or those involved in protests. In response, Hambardzumyan stated that his work has been focused on combating cyber crimes, and he has not personally handled such cases.

In response to the concluding question, Hambardzumyan emphasized that the priority in the fight against corruption is political will because no matter how ideal our laws and approaches may be, without political will, the state cannot effectively combat corruption. He also noted that the current authorities of Armenia have more political will than ever to fight against corruption.
