‘Hayastani Zhoghovurd’. ‘Taron Avia’ Leaves Armenia, Will Operate in Africa
‘Hayastani Zhoghovurd’ reports that the Armenian airline ‘Taron Avia’ has decided to cease operations in Armenia and will now operate in Africa. Amid the emphasis on supporting local production and activities within the country, a question arises as to why this local airline has preferred working conditions in Africa over those in Armenia.
Recently, ‘Taron Avia’ had been regularly reporting issues with their flights and received no support from the government. The company’s commercial director, Levon Karamyan, clarified in an interview with the newspaper that, complying with a government request, they transported our compatriots who were stranded in Hurghada, Egypt, back to Armenia at significantly lower prices during the summer, resulting in financial losses for the airline.
Additionally, according to Karamyan, there are discriminatory pricing practices at Russian airports, with two types of prices for local and foreign carriers, and they have essentially been unable to compete in this environment.
Now, according to the newspaper’s information, the Civil Aviation Committee has conducted inspections at ‘Taron Avia’. Karen Gyurjyan, the head of the committee’s flight safety division, stated that violations were documented as a result of the inspections, and it has been decided to suspend the airline’s aircraft operator certificate.
