I Thought Everyone Would Be In Favor: Mirzoyan Surprised by Bill's Failure
I participate in all meetings of the Security Council at the invitation of the Prime Minister. This was stated today, on November 14, by the President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan, responding to the fact that the bill allowing the President of the National Assembly to attend the Security Council meetings was not accepted yesterday in the National Assembly.
According to him, the issue is not his personal matter, but rather that the President of the National Assembly should have such authority.
When asked about the reasons for the bill's failure and whether the deputies of the 'My Step' faction were negligent, Ararat Mirzoyan replied: 'We are talking about the enhancement of the role of the National Assembly, in this case represented by the President of the National Assembly, in a parliamentary country. Other factions had previously stated that this is a very good initiative. They even demanded more, saying that the initiative should come in the name of all three factions. Special efforts to secure votes were not made on our part. If we wanted to pass the law at all costs, we could have asked our colleagues on assignment to inform their votes in favor by letter. Thus, there was no such issue here.'
Ararat Mirzoyan added that the failure of the bill was unexpected for him in the sense that he thought everyone would support it.
