Haykakan Zhamanak: Has the Ministry Reconsidered Its Approaches Due to Protests?

According to the newspaper "Haykakan Zhamanak," we asked Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arevik Anapiosyan whether the ministry has reconsidered its approaches in light of the protests, particularly regarding the history of the Armenian Apostolic Church. She responded: "No. Both I and Mr. Harutyunyan have repeatedly stated that there is no decision, there are discussions."

We also inquired if the approaches to teaching the Armenian language and literature, and history have changed. She replied: "No, that is an issue of university autonomy. If our schools are unable to provide the important knowledge regarding the Armenian language, literature, and history, that is a separate conversation. We are ready for multifaceted discussions on this matter, but we must note that what we teach in universities is a problem that must be resolved strictly within the framework of general education, nonetheless, we are prepared for discussion."

We asked if they would take a step back, so to speak, on these two issues. Anapiosyan commented, "It depends on what question and for what reason. The law will be put up for public discussion, and we will try to understand if the problems are clearly laid out, the methodology will also be clarified."

It has been suggested that this demand is from globalists who aim to destroy national values and conservatism established by those who came to power through the Velvet Revolution. Anapiosyan responded, "You can also notice that such evaluations are present in marginal groups and are noise caused by various provocations. Those 'concerns' that are raised in such a disorganized manner are not based on any legal foundation.”
