Most of Those Released by Amnesty Return to Prisons Within 6 Months, Says Pashinyan
During a response to a question from one of the National Assembly members, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that there is an issue related to thefts. When a person arrested for a crime is not detained until the end of the investigation, they often continue to commit thefts.
"We have faced a similar problem with amnesty, as it is well-known statistics that a significant percentage of those released under amnesty return to penitentiary institutions within the following 6 months," said Pashinyan.
According to him, while the issue of overcrowding in prisons has been addressed, there is also a need to tackle the problem of repeat thefts by those who are not taken into custody.
