Disciplinary Proceedings Initiated Against One of the Arrested Lawyers
Yesterday, the National Security Service announced that charges have been brought against and two lawyers have been arrested. Female lawyers Alina Avetisyan and Nelly Papyan are accused of soliciting a bribe from an authorized official of the RA Court of Appeal to resolve the issue of early conditional release for a convict by abusing the convict’s trust.
Nelly Papyan received her license in October 2013 and specializes in civil, administrative, contractual relations, inheritance, banking activities, bankruptcy, family relations, property, and enforcement proceedings.
Lawyer Alina Avetisyan obtained her license in 2014 and specializes in civil cases. In February 2019, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Avetisyan at the Bar Association for failing to attend mandatory retraining courses.
It is noteworthy that the matter involves 7,000 USD, equivalent to 3,331,090 AMD, of which 6,800 USD was found in the apartment of one of the lawyers during a search conducted by NSS employees. The lawyers have been detained and arrested.
