New Quality Labels to be Introduced in 2020
Mandatory labeling of products will see the introduction of new quality labels starting in 2020. This information was provided by the Public Relations Department of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia.
Considering the complaints from parents of young children about the polyethylene covering of labels potentially becoming detached and causing incidents, the State Revenue Committee has taken steps to address the issue comprehensively. “By the instruction of the Prime Minister, the State Revenue Committee has initiated the procurement of new quality labels. By decree of the head of the State Revenue Committee, the technical specifications and quality of the labels have been changed. In the first phase, the thickness of the polyethylene covering of the labels has been reduced from 50 microns to 36 microns. Parallel to this, work has been underway on changing the technical specifications of the new quality labels,” stated Edgar Gevorgyan, Secretary of the State Revenue Committee.
While developing the new technical specifications for the labels, all public concerns have been taken into account. New technical requirements have been set for the company responsible for the printing of the labels; they must be of new quality and safer.
The new labels are designed to be more secure and have higher adhesive properties. They are made exclusively from paper-based materials and do not contain any polymer coatings. The materials and adhesives used are safe for food labeling and do not contain carcinogenic substances or pesticides. The label consists of multiple protective layers and includes a highly protected holographic transparent layer.
It is noteworthy that the affixed labels cannot be removed entirely and without damage. The State Revenue Committee assures that the new labels adhere more securely to products, and even if a child were to ingest them, it would not pose a health risk.
