VIDEO: Stalls and kiosks on wheels or stones cannot be allowed in the city, says Marutyan
Last week, 18 illegal kiosks and stalls were dismantled in Yerevan. The city administration and the divisions of administrative districts are engaged in daily efforts to regulate outdoor trade, informs the press service of the Yerevan City Hall.
During a working consultation, Mayor Hayk Marutyan stressed the importance of informing and warning all entrepreneurs once again that a draft law aimed at regulating this issue is already in the National Assembly.
“Despite the gaps in the law, what is happening in the city today is not actually mobile trade. They are stalls on wheels or stones. The city cannot allow this. There will be legislative changes in the near future, which will regulate the sector. There will be real mobile trade, meaning that the vehicles will not be parked in the same place permanently. The city council will determine the permissible places, times, and other criteria,” the mayor stated.
In parallel with addressing the issue of waste management, the city hall has initiated a pilot program for waste sorting. New vehicles will be designated for transporting sorted cardboard in collaboration with entrepreneurs. The city authorities also plan to have separate sorting bins for residents.
The deadline for physical persons to pay property tax has been set for December 1. Citizens will also be informed in the coming days through text messages sent to their mobile phones. The Yerevan City Hall reminds that by paying property and land taxes on time, residents can avoid penalties and fines. It is also crucial to know that the problems of the city can be resolved through the direct participation of citizens and timely payment of taxes.
The Yerevan City Hall will take steps to improve the safety of pedestrian crossings, and traffic lights activated by citizen calls will be installed. It has been reported that by the end of the year, five more crossings will have such traffic lights. Next year, the same approach will be implemented in 36 more locations. Under the mayor’s directive, work will also be done with the traffic police to regulate the permissible maximum speed in these areas.
The mayor has instructed to develop and present a program for New Year’s festivities that will be appealing not only to the residents of Yerevan but also to visitors of the city. “This year, New Year’s should be celebrated in a special way; we need a program that allows our citizens, rather than seeking alternatives, to spend the New Year right in the city, in Republic Square. During those days, Yerevan will also host numerous compatriots and other tourists arriving from abroad. In this regard, it is very important to make the festive days interesting from the perspective of tourism development,” the mayor emphasized.
Speaking about upcoming tasks, Mayor Hayk Marutyan noted that there is a need to clarify approaches in all sectors. “During my vacation, while being in some European cities, I had unofficial meetings with leading experts in waste management, transport, trade, and several other sectors to learn from their experiences. Achieving all this in one day or one year is certainly not possible, but striving for European standards, it is possible to move towards this goal step by step. The results of the work we start now may appear ten years later. But to have those results, we must start today. We must work calmly, knowing where we are going,” the mayor highlighted.
