What Was the Cause of the Train Collision at the Arin-Berd Station? Preliminary Theories
As already reported, two trains collided at the Arin-Berd station on the railway line, resulting in four injuries. According to ArmDaily.am, the thermal locomotive struck a train that was conducting construction work.
Two theories are circulating regarding the causes of the accident: either the train operators were under the influence of alcohol, which is less likely, or this was the result of negligence, specifically that the dispatchers failed to change the switches, causing the collision.
As a result, there are not only injured individuals, but also material damage, particularly concerning the thermal locomotive and the special purpose train.
This incident marks the eighth similar case in nine months, which has also resulted in injuries. In an interview with us, Ruben Grdzelyan, the press secretary of South Caucasus Railways, stated that he learned about the incident from the press: "It was probably a minor incident, so I am not aware of it." When asked whether he considers it minor given that four people were injured, Grdzelyan replied, "If it were serious, I would definitely know about it."
