Senator Urges Trump to Withdraw Invitation to Erdogan
Bob Menendez, the chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has proposed that President Donald Trump cancel the upcoming meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan is set to visit the U.S. on November 13 at Trump’s invitation, but a day prior, Erdogan’s spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin stated that the appropriateness of the visit is still under discussion and it could be called off.
Amidst these developments, particularly following the passage of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the House of Representatives, Menendez has suggested to Trump that he withdraw the invitation, according to Ermenihaber.
“The photo of Trump and Erdogan in the Oval Office will not only harm the Kurds' ability to live peacefully and securely but will also diminish allies' trust in the U.S. during potential future conflicts. President Trump, I insist that you cancel this invitation. Don’t damage your reputation. It’s time to show Erdogan that he must adhere to NATO values and respect international law,” stated Menendez.
