Kocharian's Lawyers Declared 'Not Leaving a Stone Unturned.' Defense Attorney

I am confident that Judge Danibekyan has not read the motion. The paragraphs that I submitted in writing during the previous court session consisted of five pages. This was stated by Ruben Sahakyan, one of the defense attorneys for the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, in a conversation with journalists while responding to a remark about the defense's repeated requests to change the measure of restraint at every court session. At this pace, when will they reach the actual trial process?

“In the motion, I wrote: do not accuse us of trying to obstruct and delay the judicial proceedings; on the contrary, we are inclined today to enter the phase of legal disputes and deliver a defense speech, and not leave a stone unturned regarding this accusation,” he said.

When asked if they would continue to submit motions until Danibekyan was satisfied, he replied, “Four defendants are involved in the case, and I cannot comment on what motions the other defendants' attorneys have, but we have a series of motions that we need to submit. For example, we need to motion: You are investigators; you are the head of the investigative group, Mr. Hrachya Musheghyan; don’t you know that if you accuse a person of exerting pressure on the judges of the Constitutional Court, then you should have such information, testimony and you must have questioned the Constitutional Court judges? But they have only questioned one of the eight judges who signed the decision of the Constitutional Court on March 8, who stated that no pressure had been exerted on him. Why haven't they questioned the other seven and written here that pressure was exerted?”

Sahakyan emphasized once again that they are not prolonging the actual examination, but are fulfilling their duties. He did not confirm that Robert Kocharian realizes that if they do not make certain motions, things will be delayed. “Because if we do not submit motions today, you can submit the same motion after the duration of the trial, which I am confident will not happen.” Sahakyan stressed that there can be no witnesses against Kocharian and assured that Arshak Karapetyan did not testify against him.

It is worth noting that today the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Anna Danibekyan, rejected the motion of Kocharian's defense lawyers requesting his release on bail. Considering the existence of previously scheduled court sessions, today’s court session was postponed. The next court session will take place on November 12 at 1:00 PM.
