Why We Must Defend the People's Achievement at All Costs: Arman Babajanyan

Arman Babajanyan, a member of the National Assembly, wrote on his Facebook page: "Parallels between the elections of 1999 and today: Why we must defend the people's achievement at all costs.

1. Because, like the elections of May 30, 1999, the elections of December 9, 2018, were unprecedentedly legitimate. Neither the Kocharyan-Sargsyan tandem in 1999 nor the forces that appeared under the guise of counter-revolution in 2018 were encouraged by the results of the unprecedented legitimate elections held in December.

2. Because October 27 occurred in a reality where Vazgen Sargsyan's government was formed from the forces represented in the country's parliament (Unity, ARF, Communist Party, National Unity, etc.), and it seemed that the coalition government should provide internal stability, and a terrorist act like October 27 should not have happened. Today, Nikol Pashinyan's government is not a coalition, and political polarization is intensifying day by day.

3. Because October 27 took place in a reality where the political authorities had succeeded in reaching an agreement with the opposition of the day to refrain from holding protests and rallies temporarily. Today, reaching such an agreement is impossible.

4. The figures behind the 1999 terrorist act and the beneficiaries until October 27 did not have as many material and informational resources as the beneficiaries of October 27 and the counter-revolutionary elements do today, both separately and together.

5. Because in 1999, the criminal oligarchy and its serving bodyguards and gangs were not formed. Today, they are all barricaded in the counter-revolutionary 'trenches.'

6. Because Artsakh was not involved in domestic issues in 1999 in any way. Today, we see attempts for such involvement."
