Trump Administration Refuses to Recognize Armenian Genocide
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed opposition to the resolution passed by the U.S. House of Representatives recognizing the Armenian Genocide and the imposition of sanctions against Turkey. This was reported by Bloomberg.
“The timing of the passage of the genocide resolution and the simultaneous condemnation of the invasion of Syria is inconsistent. This could lead to the adoption of legislation that is seen more as punitive than principled,” stated a senior official from the U.S. State Department.
The State Department representative also noted that the U.S. position on the Armenian Genocide has not changed. He stated that the U.S. remembers and mourns the deaths of one and a half million Armenians.
