What Issues Were Discussed Between Serzh Sargsyan and US Ambassador Lynne Tracy
On November 5, a meeting took place at the Republican Party of Armenia's central office between the party's president, third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, and the US Ambassador in Armenia, Lynne Tracy, at the latter's initiative. Representatives from the Republican Party's governing body and the US embassy also participated in the meeting.
“I appreciate the longstanding relations of the US embassy with Armenia's political parties, including the Republican Party. The United States remains committed to supporting Armenia's democratic, economic, and social governance, as it has been for the past 27 years of our diplomatic relations,” said Ambassador Tracy.
During the meeting, the ambassador inquired about the Republican Party's upcoming plans and areas of activity and assured that such meetings would be regularly initiated from now on.
At the ambassador's request, Serzh Sargsyan also presented the current political situation in Armenia, existing concerns, the Republican Party's positions on these issues, as well as addressed economic and security challenges, the current state of the negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the prospects for the development of Armenian-American relations.
On this occasion, Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the adoption of Resolution 296 by the US House of Representatives, which affirms the United States' stance on the Armenian Genocide. “There is no alternative to genuine democratization in Armenia. We have worked for many years in this direction while also building mutually beneficial partnership relations, including with the US. Genuine democracy is the answer to the populism that has become a major challenge for many countries in the world. For our party, Armenia and Artsakh's security, and issues of stability and peace in the region will remain a priority,” stated Serzh Sargsyan.
