Robert Kocharyan is in Unequal Conditions: Seyran Ohanyan

During the discussion of the issue of replacing the detention of Robert Kocharyan with bail at the Shengavit Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan, defendant and former Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan spoke, stating that he is in favor of this based on several circumstances:

“First of all, I believe that Robert Kocharyan is in unequal conditions. While holding great respect for those who lost their loved ones on March 1, I must say that this trial has nothing to do with the murders, and the circumstances of loss are not being discussed here today.”

According to Seyran Ohanyan, the events of March 1 are based on the actions of three presidents of Armenia: “One president was elected, another did not accept it, and the third president was supposed to establish order, passing everything somehow on to the next president.”

Ohanyan noted that taking into account the current informational situation, where people seem to be delighted by Robert Kocharyan's predicament, he emphasizes that he is in unequal conditions: “I support Mr. Sahakyan’s statement that we too are going through this article, and none of my promises as a former Supreme Commander-in-Chief have remained unfulfilled; this only substantiates to me that if Robert Kocharyan has also made a promise, I believe he will keep it.”

Ohanyan mentioned that many individuals have been interrogated in this case, and neither he nor anyone else has received any calls to change their testimonies. “Considering this and personally knowing Robert Kocharyan, I believe that the results of his leadership are evident; therefore, I am in favor of releasing him on bail,” Ohanyan concluded.

It is noteworthy that Kocharyan's defenders requested today to replace the selected measure of detention against Robert Kocharyan with an alternative precautionary measure of bail. They did not specify the amount of bail, leaving it to the discretion of the court. The court will announce a decision on the application on November 7.
