The level of air pollution in India's capital, New Delhi, has reached its highest point in the past year. This information was reported by the Daily Mail.
According to local authorities representative Sachin Taparia, doctors have recorded a sharp increase in acute respiratory diseases. This surge is attributed to the fact that on Sunday, the air pollution level in the capital rose to an alarming 900, which is 400 points above the normal limit and poses a significant danger.
An emergency in the health sector has been declared in the city, and schools have been closed. Due to poor visibility, more than 30 flights have been canceled at Delhi Airport, and the roads are deserted as people prefer to stay indoors rather than breathe toxic air.
No relief is anticipated in the coming days, as the pollution associated with crop burning has increased following rain, although it is noted that levels are expected to drop back to 500 within 24-48 hours. Air pollution with an index above 400 is considered dangerous for individuals with pre-existing health conditions and can also affect healthy individuals' lungs.
Starting today, the use of personal vehicles in Delhi will be restricted. Leaders from neighboring states have urged regional authorities to combat air pollution with stricter measures.
