Marukyan Addresses Relevant Russian Officials on Driver's License Issue for Armenian Citizens

The leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, Edmon Marukyan, has announced on his Facebook page that he has officially contacted the relevant authorities in Russia to raise the issue of driver's license rights for Armenian citizens living and working in the country.

In his post, he stated: "Regarding the issue of working in Russia with an Armenian driver's license. Dear citizens, I have just filed an official letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs, V. Kolokoltsev, and the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, M. Topilin, to address the driver’s license rights of our compatriots residing and working in the Russian Federation.

The issue pertains to the law passed by the State Duma of Russia, which prohibits the use of Armenian driver's licenses for work in the service sector (such as taxi or delivery services). We have convincingly proven that this law contradicts several provisions of the EAEU agreement. Moreover, according to Article 15, Part 4 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, in cases of such contradictions, the international treaty should be applied, not the statute.

Therefore, I have urged the relevant ministers to protect our citizens' rights in the Russian Federation by applying the provisions of the applicable treaty rather than the law. Let’s wait for the results..."
