Details of Attempted Murder on Paylak Hayrapetyan: Shot at While in His Lexus

The preliminary investigation by the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee is underway to clarify the circumstances of the attempted murder of a resident of Yerevan.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, based on initial data, the suspect attempted to unlawfully deprive the life of the 29-year-old Yerevan resident on November 1, 2019, around 03:00 AM. The suspect, having previously tracked the young man driving a "Lexus ES250" car, equalized his vehicle alongside the Lexus on the Yerevan-Sevan highway, specifically on the 48 km section leading to Tsaghkadzor. The suspect fired four shots from a 9mm caliber firearm he was illegally carrying, but due to circumstances beyond his control, he was unable to complete the crime and fled the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department under Part 1 of Article 34-104 and Article 235, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. The 29-year-old young man and a 54-year-old man who was in the vehicle with him at the time of the incident have been recognized as victims.

A investigation of the crime scene has been conducted, during which four 9mm caliber shell casings were discovered and seized. Samples of the shooting residues have been taken from the victims, and complex forensic chemical, forensic ballistic, and forensic fingerprint examinations have been appointed. Additionally, a gas pistol presented by the 54-year-old man, who attempted to intimidate the assailant, has been confiscated.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing. Necessary investigative and other procedural actions are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case. The relevant police department has been instructed to take measures to identify the alleged perpetrator(s) as well as determine the make of the vehicle that pursued the 29-year-old young man.

It is noted that, according to media reports, the 29-year-old individual is Paylak Hayrapetyan, the grandson of the renowned owner of the Yerevan brick factory from the Soviet era. His father, Hovik Hayrapetyan, is the owner of the well-known "Hayastan" supermarket in Yerevan. Earlier, it was reported that shots were fired at Paylak Hayrapetyan's Lexus, the son of the owner of the "Hayastan" supermarket.
