Dashnaktsutyun Demands Araik Harutyunyan's Resignation
The Youth Union of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) has stated on its Facebook page: "Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Araik Harutyunyan must submit his resignation before the government’s regular session scheduled for November 7.
During his tenure, Minister Harutyunyan has made decisions that raise serious concerns:
- The removal of the subject 'History of the Armenian Church' from the school curriculum,
- The proposal to make the subjects 'Armenian Language', 'Armenian Literature', and 'History of Armenia' non-mandatory in higher education,
- The financial priorities set by the Ministry of Education, such as the allocation of 20 million AMD for the production of a film about individuals who have emigrated from Armenia, sought asylum in a foreign country, or undergone gender transition.
These facts, along with the interviews and comments provided on the topic, indicate Harutyunyan's inappropriate and often mocking attitude towards the national values that form the foundation of our Armenian identity.
The ARF Youth Union considers Minister Araik Harutyunyan's disrespectful attitude towards the values that underpin the history of our homeland and the essence of our people unacceptable and demands his resignation.
Continuing Harutyunyan's tenure poses a threat to the future of the Armenian educational system, Armenian science, Armenian culture, and Armenian sports; therefore, our further actions will be guided by this logic."
