Conflict Between Two Criminals: Tracing a 14-Year-Old Murder Case

On October 29, the Investigative Committee announced that a murder committed in 2005 has been solved. The newspaper "Joghout" has learned the details of how the circumstances of this 14-year-old murder were uncovered.

According to the preliminary investigation authority, on October 22, 2019, at 22:40, a report was received at the Erevan police station from a citizen stating that in 2014, he learned from his deceased father that years ago, his aunt, his aunt's son, and the son’s wife had killed his other aunt after accommodating her in their home located on 11th Street, Nor Arenj, Yerevan, and had hidden the body.

Based on the gathered evidence, the relatives of N. Yagutyan, born in 1937, killed her in order to seize her significant collection of gold jewelry in their home on 11th Street, Nor Arenj, Yerevan, stole her gold valuables, and buried her body in the basement located under one of the bedrooms. During a search conducted at the aforementioned address in accordance with the law, remains of a human body, including a skull and bones, as well as clothes and other items of interest for the investigation were discovered and seized from the basement under the house's bedroom.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering N. Yagutyan, the wife of his mother's uncle, and has provided a confession. This disclosure raised several questions among law enforcement; how did they manage to solve a murder case from 14 years ago?

According to the information we received, the perpetrators of the murder had disagreements some time ago, and one of them stated that he would go to the law enforcement authorities and disclose what they did 14 years ago. One of the alleged murderers approached the police and revealed the details of what they had done 14 years prior, leading the law enforcement agencies to follow his lead and uncover the crime.

It appears that had one of the alleged murderers not reported to the police, the murder of N. Yagutyan on 11th Street, Nor Arenj, Yerevan, would not have been revealed. It is noteworthy that those who knew Yagutyan believed that she had gone to Russia and died there.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Erevan police station under the characteristics of paragraph 1 of Article 104 of the Criminal Code, which has been forwarded to the investigative department of the Erevan and Nubarashen administrative regions and taken up for investigation, and an investigative group has been established.
