Video: For a Child in an Orphanage, It Means Reading a Sentence Against a Person, Says Pashinyan

The Armenian government is discussing the liquidation of the state non-commercial organizations 'Diligence Children Care and Protection Night Institution', 'Bureghavan Children Care and Protection Night Institution', 'Gyumri Children Care and Protection N 1 Night Institution', 'Gyumri Fridtjof Nansen Children Care and Protection N 2 Night Institution', and 'Vanadzor Orphanage'. This involves revoking several government decisions, including the July 26, 2007, N 890-N, the October 17, 2002, N 1738-N, and the November 28, 2002, N 1906-N decisions of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed Minister Zaruhy Batoyan, stating, 'The first part of the decision was framed in the logic of fake news; there will be a big uproar today that the Armenian government is closing orphanages, night schools, etc. In Armenia, being a child of an orphanage means reading a sentence against a person.'

The Minister also mentioned, 'As of June 1, 2019, 260 children were cared for in institutions, a number that has decreased due to children returning to their biological families. As of October 28, 2019, the number was down to 130 children. This year, a thorough assessment of the needs of children and families has been conducted. Individual support programs are being implemented, and children receive state assistance. Thirty percent of parents have been included in economic development programs.'
