Tonoayan Rules Out Conspiracy from Armenia in April War

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the October 27, 1999 terrorist attack, members of the Volunteer Corps, led by President Sasun Mikayelyan, visited the "Yerablur" military pantheon today. Defense Minister Davit Tonoayan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Artak Davtyan, former MP and leader of the "Republic" party Aram Sargsyan, and senior officials were also present.

In response to a journalist's question about whether he considers the case of October 27 to be resolved, Defense Minister Davit Tonoayan stated, "There are currently convicted individuals; how can it be said that the case has not been opened? As long as the trial has been completed, I consider it closed, but I cannot speak on other issues. Over time, if new evidence emerges, perhaps changes will occur. I am the first interested party in having this incident uncovered if it has not yet been resolved. If there are individuals who have directed actions, I think it is only a matter of time; it is impossible that it won't be uncovered. Similar cases have been revealed after 20 or 30 years."

Regarding the activities of the commission investigating the April War, he noted that they are working closely, providing all necessary documents, and representatives from the Ministry of Defense are present at these proceedings. The Minister also mentioned that he would attend the commission if invited.

When asked about his expectations from the commission's work, he responded, "So that the rumors concerning the April actions in society come to an end. I rule out a conspiracy war; there were indeed treacherous acts from the enemy, but I exclude a conspiracy from within Armenia."

The Minister discussed the current situation at the border, stating that it is under control, and there is relative calm; however, there are occasional gunshots mainly related to ongoing engineering work.

Davit Tonoayan also addressed recent media reports regarding his resignation, suggesting that perhaps they were testing sentiments, and he added that he does not have the time to engage in rumors and speculation. He also noted there is no tension in his relations with the Prime Minister.

In response to a journalist's question about the resolution of the Artsakh issue, the Minister stated that the issue of Artsakh is resolved.
