If I Have a Son, I Will Name Him Vazgen: Garik Sargsyan

Ararat region governor Garik Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page: "Exactly 35 months ago, on November 27, 2016, my wife and I were wed at the Church of the Holy Martyrs in Yerevan. Why that particular church? Because four years earlier, on October 27, 2012, I promised at the grave of Commander Vazgen Sargsyan that if I were to get married, my wedding would take place in Yerablur.

Before the liberation of Shushi, Vazgen had promised to Commandos that if everything went well, he would get married, which is why the operation was named 'Wedding in the Mountains.' Vazgen could not keep that promise because his fight was still not over, and our homeland had not been fully liberated from both external and internal enemies.

Although the Commander did not marry and had no heirs, he bequeathed to us the most important security guarantee: the victorious Armenian army. The external enemy has long acknowledged the fact that the army raised in Vazgen's spirit should not be trifled with, while the internal enemy is on the correct path to receiving its due punishment.

Today, I promise something else: if I have a son, I will name him Vazgen, and he will grow up and be raised in the spirit of Vazgen. This is the bare minimum we must do to continue Vazgen's unfinished work. And as he said, 'This country is not a place to be loved with words, nor is it a land to be viewed through a telescope; it is a country of universal love, the capital of which begins right from the trench.' This country needs more Vazgens."
