Erdogan's Response to the Elimination of ISIS Leader

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has responded to the operation conducted by the U.S. armed forces in Syria's Idlib province, during which the leader of the Islamic State (ISIS), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was reportedly killed.

In his posts on Twitter regarding the matter, Erdogan stated in one, "The elimination of the ISIS leader is a turning point in our fight against terrorism. Turkey will continue to support anti-terrorism efforts, just as it has in the past." In subsequent posts, Erdogan welcomed again the neutralization of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, asserting that Turkey is the country that has suffered the most casualties in the fight against ISIS.

It is worth noting that the day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed. According to the White House, the number one terrorist was killed as a result of actions by U.S. special forces in northeastern Syria. The exact location of the special operations was not specified by the U.S. President, but earlier reports indicated that it occurred in Idlib, not far from the Turkish border.
