Increase in Illegal Tree Felling Cases (Video)
On October 23, police officers of the Tumanyan division uncovered a case of illegal tree felling. They stopped a Ford Transit vehicle in the village of Martz on suspicion of transporting illegal timber. The driver did not comply with the police's lawful demands and attempted to flee.
The officers pursued him and, with the assistance of the road police serving in the Lori region, stopped the vehicle in the area of Pambak. The driver was taken into custody by the Tumanyan police, while the vehicle loaded with about 3.5 cubic meters of timber was moved to a designated secure area. The 44-year-old resident of Vanadzor could not provide any documentation to confirm the legality of the cargo. A professional examination has been initiated.
On the night of October 24, police officers from the Goris division also uncovered a case of illegal tree felling. They stopped a truck belonging to a 49-year-old resident of Goris on the road leading to the village of Khndzoresk for inspection, which was loaded with approximately 4 cubic meters of timber. The driver also failed to present any documents proving the legality of the cargo.
The vehicle was moved to the division's secure area. Investigations revealed that the trees were illegally cut down in the vicinity of Vaghatur village. A professional examination has been ordered, and materials are being prepared regarding the incident.
