Firefighter Who Died Participated in Four-Day War: New Details from Emergency Situations Minister

The 22-year-old firefighter who lost his life during firefighting operations in Vanadzor was a participant in the April Four-Day War. He had been working within the Ministry of Emergency Situations for five months.

The second injured firefighter is currently at the Radiation Medicine and Burns Center in Yerevan. This was reported by Minister of Emergency Situations Felix Tsolakyan in an interview with Hraparak, while he was at the Lori Regional Rescue Department.

He also provided further details: “They went to the scene and carried out firefighting operations, and after some time, a report was received that two firefighters were injured. The area where the incident occurred was quite hard-to-reach and complicated. One of the firefighters, who was a young man, died on the spot, and the other was transported to the Vanadzor Medical Center with 40 percent burns on his body, and later flown to Yerevan by medical helicopter,” the minister stated, noting that the situation is critical with severe burns affecting the young man’s airways.

According to the minister, the nature of a firefighter’s work is such that incidents like this can happen every day, and firefighters are aware of this as they perform their duties.

Speaking about the details of the incident, the minister mentioned that during the firefighting operations, a sudden gust of wind arose, causing the fire to change direction, and the young firefighters were unable to escape from the flames.

Family members of the deceased firefighter have already been informed about the tragic incident. According to our information, Minister Felix Tsolakyan is also visiting the family members.
