Erdogan Demands the US Surrender Kurdish Commander

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that the United States should surrender Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance, to Ankara, according to DW. Erdogan referred to Abdi as a "terrorist" linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). National media report that Turkey considers him responsible for an attack in southeastern Turkey in 2008, which resulted in the death of 17 soldiers.

In addition, Turkey has criticized several countries, including the US, for viewing Abdi as a legitimate political figure. Erdogan announced that Turkey would begin the process of preparing an extradition request for Abdi.

US President Donald Trump, in turn, noted on his Twitter account that he was pleased with his conversation with Abdi. "I really enjoyed my conversation with General Mazloum Abdi. He appreciates what we’ve done, and I appreciate what the Kurds have done. Perhaps it is time for the Kurds to start heading towards oil regions," Trump wrote.
