Arsen Babayan Arrested Based on Arman Babajanyan's Report: Will There Be More Arrests?
As we have already reported, just recently, the Special Investigative Service issued a statement regarding the arrest of Arsen Babayan, the former deputy head of the National Assembly's staff, on suspicion of committing a crime under the first part of Article 314 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.
Aurora News has learned that Babayan was arrested based on a report from Arman Babajanyan, an independent member of the National Assembly and a former member of the Prosperous Armenia faction. Babajanyan himself wrote about this on his Facebook page: “In detailing my report to the Chief Prosecutor H. Tovmasyan and others regarding the usurpation of power, I have provided additional information to the Special Investigative Service, sending the necessary documents. Based on my report, Arsen Babayan, the former deputy head of the National Assembly's staff, has been arrested.”
According to the statement from the Special Investigative Service, during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated under the first part of Article 300 of the Criminal Code, evidence was obtained indicating that officials, in the process of the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan's resignation, committed official forgeries based on group interests, both personally and through non-official officials.
In light of revealing a newly apparent crime, a new criminal case has been initiated under the first part of Article 314 of the Criminal Code, which has been combined with the previously initiated criminal case regarding the usurpation of power. It should be noted that the other criminal case pertains to the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan.
