Criminal Prosecution Against Surik Khachatryan's Younger Son Terminated

The criminal prosecution against the younger son of former Syunik governor Surik Khachatryan, Tigran Khachatryan, has been terminated. This was reported by the Investigative Committee in response to a written inquiry from Hetq.

Tigran Khachatryan was accused of evading mandatory military service through document forgery. According to the Investigative Committee, the preliminary investigation revealed that Tigran Khachatryan has suffered from certain illnesses that rendered him unfit for military service at the time of the allegations and currently.

“A decision has been made to terminate the criminal prosecution against Tigran Khachatryan based on Article 35, Section 1, Clause 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code due to the absence of a criminal offense,” the response stated.

A criminal case has been initiated concerning the case of Ashot Arsenyan’s son regarding evasion from military service. However, the criminal case has not been dismissed as it also involves Surik Khachatryan’s elder son, Tigran Khachatryan. Law enforcement has included him in the investigation over suspicions of allegedly falsified documents that facilitated his exemption from military service. Tigran Khachatryan is currently wanted.

Additionally, Vardan Ghukasyan’s son has been charged in a case concerning military service evasion. We had also inquired about other former and current officials’ sons involved in criminal cases, but there have been no updates on those cases; the investigations are ongoing.
