2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze at Weightlifting European Championships for M20 and M23
Armenian weightlifters have secured 4 major medals in a single day at the 2019 European Championships for athletes under 20 and under 23. On October 24, during the competition held in Bucharest, Romania, they won 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
The medalists included Karen Avagyan, Ara Agayan (89 kg) (in the photo), Liana Gyurjian (81 kg), and Rafik Harutyunyan (81 kg). Avagyan demonstrated a total performance of 364 kg in the combined events (170 kg + 194 kg). He captured a small gold medal in the snatch and a small silver in the clean and jerk.
Ara Agayan also earned a silver medal in the same weight category, lifting a total of 358 kg (162 kg + 196 kg). He also took home a small silver in the snatch and a small gold in the clean and jerk.
Gyurjian (81 kg) became the champion in the under 20 category with a total of 215 kg (95 kg + 120 kg) in the combined events. He also won small gold medals in both snatch and clean and jerk.
In the men's 81 kg category for under 20, Harutyunyan secured a bronze medal, achieving a total of 340 kg (150 kg + 190 kg). He placed fourth in the snatch and garnered a small silver in the clean and jerk.
The European M20 and M23 Championships commenced on October 17 and will conclude on the 27th. The Armenian team also includes Olympic silver medalist and dual World and European Champion Simon Martirosyan (+109 kg) and World and European champion Hakob Mkrtchyan (89 kg).
