Who is Responsible for the Death of the Bread Deliverer? Real Reasons Behind Kostanyan’s Resignation
The issue surrounding the death of Arthur Sargsyan, known as the Bread Deliverer, has once again become a widely discussed topic. The newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak reported exclusive information back on October 20, indicating that one of the experts accepted guilt to the law enforcement agencies, admitting that they had concluded incorrectly that Sargsyan’s health conditions could justify his detention.
While the Investigative Committee continues to investigate the circumstances of the Bread Deliverer’s death, former representative of Armenia to the ECHR, Gevorg Kostanyan, also commented on the issue recently. He noted that upon receiving the documentation regarding Arthur Sargsyan’s health from the ECHR, he sent the packet to former Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan, and after reviewing the materials, they concluded that Sargsyan’s illness was inconsistent with being deprived of freedom.
“The next day, I distinctly remember, on December 30, Arthur Sargsyan was released. However, unexpectedly, if I’m not mistaken, on the same or the following day, a decision was made to conduct a second forensic medical examination. To be honest, this was unexpected for me…” stated Gevorg Kostanyan.
Interestingly, the day after Arthur Sargsyan’s arrest (August 3), on August 4, Gevorg Kostanyan resigned from the position of Chief Prosecutor of Armenia. Was this arrest the reason for his resignation? It is a fact that it was only after the uproar raised by Kostanyan, as a representative of the ECHR, that the Bread Deliverer was released from custody.
