There Are More Workers in the Orphanage Than Children: Pashinyan

“Recently, there has been an outcry about whether we are closing down the elderly care home or orphanage,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at the beginning of a government meeting. According to him, it is important to explain the new regulations in an accessible manner.

Pashinyan addressed the issue of closing orphanages and said that, based on their observations, there are more workers in the orphanage than there are children. He emphasized that their goal is to care for these children, not to maintain jobs.

“Our task is to protect the interests of the child. The financial resources allocated for this purpose should now follow the child and enter the child’s family as a result of these changes,” Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister rephrased the regulation presented by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, stating that they are not trying to halt elderly care services but rather to delegate them to private or charitable organizations through a tender process. According to him, the elderly should be able to choose which organization they prefer, and state funding will be directed to that specific organization.
