Nikol Pashinyan Meets with EU Ambassador

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, EU Ambassador Andrea Victorin, today, October 24, as reported by the government's press service.

Welcoming the EU Ambassador, Pashinyan stated, "Collaboration with the European Union is of crucial importance for Armenia during this significant reform period. Since the revolution, the EU has been one of our most important partners in the democratic agenda, and we view your appointment in the context of further strengthening Armenia-EU cooperation. We consider the political dialogue with the EU to be effective and are ready to actively work together to make our partnership more efficient."

Speaking about Armenia's democratic reform agenda, the Prime Minister touched upon the judicial sector, electoral system, anti-corruption policies, and programs aimed at economic development.

“It is a great honor to be appointed as the head of the EU Delegation in Armenia and to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of Armenia-EU relations. The EU reaffirms its continued support for your democratic reform agenda, which aims at Armenia's development based on the rule of law and our shared values,” Ambassador Victorin noted in her remarks, adding that she is impressed by the changes taking place in various sectors in Armenia.

She assured that the European Union will continue to assist Armenia in strengthening democracy in the areas mentioned by the Prime Minister, as well as enrich the Armenia-EU partnership with mutually beneficial new programs and initiatives.

Nikol Pashinyan and Andrea Victorin discussed a wide range of issues related to the Armenia-EU agenda, including the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, Eastern Partnership, implementation of joint new programs, and development of cooperation in various sectors such as infrastructure, energy, environment, green economy, and more.

Both sides emphasized the importance of steps aimed at starting negotiations on the liberalization of visa regulations for Armenian citizens traveling to the EU.

The interlocutors underlined the significance of getting acquainted with the new leadership of EU institutions and, in this context, the upcoming mutual visits.

The parties exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Prime Minister Pashinyan underlined the EU's balanced position in the resolution process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Ambassador Victorin noted that the European Union supports the negotiation process of the conflict and encourages the creation of an atmosphere conducive to a peaceful resolution through dialogue.
