‘Haykakan Jamanak’: Prime Minister’s aides summon black-clad mothers, place soft pillows under their heads and send them home

‘Haykakan Jamanak’ newspaper reports that the government is doing everything possible to prevent the protests of ‘black-clad’ mothers from escalating into a social uprising, aiming to prevent them from joining other demonstrators incited by news of salary increases for government officials.

It is worth noting that the government has allocated 30 million for each family of the victims of March 1. Similar demands have been made by the families of soldiers killed or wounded at the border.

Almost every week, Prime Minister’s aides summon black-clad mothers for a 'consultation', placing soft pillows under their heads before sending them home. On Tuesday, the mothers were again with Prime Minister's aide Suren Ghambaryan. The mothers insisted on their demands, reminding that the government has announced an additional 25 percent increase in budget revenues.

They highlighted the extravagant expenditures and salary increases of the officials. “Don’t leave us out,” we asked the President of the NGO 'Zharangutyun' Satik Khlghatyan, why these meetings are closed and journalists are not informed. “The issue is still in the negotiation phase, that’s why... We were told they would respond within a week,” she said.

What expectations do you have? “I believe they will definitely provide a positive response.” And if not? “We will continue our protests.”
