Armenian Parliament Approves Bill for Cashless Salary Payments for Companies with 10 or More Employees

The Parliament has fully adopted, in its second reading, a draft law mandating cashless salary payments for companies in Yerevan with 10 or more employees.

The bill, authored by Gevorg Papoyan from the ‘My Step’ faction, received 96 votes in favor, 16 against, and 7 abstentions.

Initially, the draft proposed that employers with 10 or more staff start making salary payments in a cashless manner from January 1. However, considering concerns regarding the availability of cashless payment methods in rural areas, the author made adjustments for the second reading. The bill now applies solely to Yerevan.

Thus, employers in the capital with 10 or more employees will be required to pay salaries through cashless means starting in January.

Before the vote, Mane Tandilyan from the ‘Bright Armenia’ faction indicated that their group would vote against the bill, as a provision allowing citizens to choose their payment methods had been removed based on public requests.

Papoyan responded that while that provision was initially included for rural areas, it was ultimately decided to focus solely on Yerevan during the second reading discussions, noting that there are no issues on that front in the capital.
