Former Government's Destroyed NSS Documents Have Been Restored

According to the newspaper "Haykakan Jamanak", there has been much speculation regarding the fate of the documents destroyed at the National Security Service (NSS), which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned during a press conference summarizing his first year in office on May 8 of this year.

“An internal investigation has been ongoing at the National Security Service for several months because, according to internal materials, the previous government destroyed materials at the NSS shortly before the revolution,” the Prime Minister stated. He qualified the actions as a crime, adding, “I am not a lawyer, but my political assessment is that this is a crime. Were those materials their private property that they destroyed? These could have contained information on numerous matters. It is a ghost case, and it should bring serious consequences.”

In an exclusive interview with the daily, NSS Deputy Director, Lieutenant General Stepan Melkonyan, announced that these were internal circulation documents and that all of them have been restored. “I can say that all documents have been actually restored, and there is no such document that... Correspondence goes from one department to another, doesn’t it? Everything has been restored according to their functions,” assured the NSS deputy director.

According to him, there were no criminal cases among these documents; they were exclusively internal circulation materials. Without disclosing the contents of the documents, Stepan Melkonyan mentioned that the results of the internal investigation regarding their disappearance will likely be presented to the public soon.
