Trump Compares Turkey and Kurds to Children Fighting in a Yard

U.S. President Donald Trump has compared Turkey and the Syrian Kurds to children fighting in a yard, which Washington separates. “They seem like children who are fighting in a yard. You let them fight for a minute, then you separate them,” the U.S. president said in an interview with Fox News.

Trump also discussed the agreement reached with Turkey regarding the cessation of military operations in northern Syria. “It was quite easy to make a deal with them,” he stated.

Recall that on October 9, Turkey announced the launch of military operations in Syria, during which the country has already struck the Syrian cities of Tal Abyad, Ras al-Ain, and other localities. The aim is to “cleanse the area of ISIS terrorists,” create a security zone there, and settle 3-4 million Syrian refugees.

On October 17, as a result of negotiations between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Turkey agreed to halt its operations for 120 hours so that Kurdish forces could withdraw from the 30 km “security zone.”
