Live: Court Reviews Appeal Against Arrest of Arsen Babayan

The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Karen Farhoyan, is reviewing the appeal against the arrest decision of Arsen Babayan, the former Deputy Chief of the National Assembly Staff.

The legality of the arrest decision is being contested in court by lawyer Lusine Martirosyan.

Babayan was arrested yesterday, on October 21, on suspicion of committing a crime under Article 314, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code (commission of official forgery). The case pertains to official forgery related to the resignation process of the former President of the Constitutional Court, Gagik Harutyunyan, motivated by group interests.

The case in which Babayan is suspected has been combined with a criminal case being investigated by the Special Investigative Service regarding the embezzlement of state power.

It is worth noting that MP Arman Babajanyan submitted a report to the Prosecutor General regarding the apparent crime of a group of officials embezzling state power.

Babajanyan argues that Hayr Tovmasyan embezzled the position of President of the Constitutional Court using criminal schemes. Based on this report, a criminal case has been initiated in the Special Investigative Service under the signs of Article 300, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.
