A 17-Member Group has been Formed at the ECHR to Examine Kocharyan’s Application

A 17-judge panel has been established at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to review the application of Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan regarding the current Constitutional Court of Armenia.

Prior to this, the ECHR had granted the request of the Armenian Constitutional Court for an advisory opinion.

The head of the panel has also set deadlines within which interested parties, including the Armenian government and other relevant bodies, can submit materials to ensure the examination process of this application.

The Constitutional Court's inquiry is related to the article in the Armenian Criminal Code that prescribes penalties for the overthrow of the constitutional order. Kocharyan has been charged under this article in connection with the events of March 1, 2008.
