Tehran Confirms Attack on Iranian Tanker in Red Sea
The representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed on October 11 that an Iranian tanker was attacked in the Red Sea. This was reported by the Iranian television channel Press TV.
The ministry noted that the tanker was hit twice, resulting in damage. The representative did not specify possible culprits behind the attack.
Earlier, the owner of the tanker, the National Iranian Oil Company, had stated that the alleged cause of two explosions on the tanker, located approximately 96 km from the Saudi port of Jeddah, was a missile strike.
The explosions occurred at 5:00 AM and 5:20 AM local time. Initially, it was reported that the explosions caused a fire, but the company later denied this information. No crew members were harmed.
Abbas Mousavi, the official spokesperson of Iran's Foreign Ministry, stated that the attack on the Iranian tanker resulted in a significant oil spill and considerable environmental contamination, as reported by Interfax.
