The Saying 'I’ll Buy Dollars with Drams' is Now a Thing of the Past
The saying 'I’ll buy dollars with drams', popular since the 1990s, is now a thing of the past. Currency exchanges are conducted in banks or licensed currency exchange points, as mandated by law.
Conducting currency transactions without a license is a criminal offense under Article 188.1 of the Criminal Code, which categorizes it as an economic crime.
This context was highlighted by the recent discovery made by police officers in the Tavush division on October 7. Around 4:30 PM, law enforcement officials acted on operational information and summoned a 54-year-old resident of Berd city for questioning.
It turned out that since August, he has been conducting currency transactions without a license, exchanging dollars and converting rubles to drams and vice versa. Further circumstances are being investigated. Materials are being prepared on the case.
