Drug Transfer Attempt Thwarted with Fishing Line in Armenian Prison
Thanks to the vigilance of the staff at the “Hrazdan” penitentiary, an attempt to transfer a package containing drugs into the prison was successfully prevented.
This was reported by the public relations department of the Armenian Ministry of Justice’s penitentiary service.
On October 1, around 5:00 PM, inmates from cell No. 29, located on the third floor of the facility, tried to use a fishing line to pull a package that had been thrown out of the prison premises. Unknown individuals had secured the package, which was connected to the fishing line, at the end of the line before it was tossed over the security barrier.
When the inmates attempted to reel the package back into their cell, the prison's security staff noticed the action and thwarted the transfer.
The package contained three pills marked “B8,” reminiscent of buprenorphine, as well as a greenish mass weighing 54 grams, resembling marijuana. According to preliminary assessments, the package was intended for three individuals.
At the crime scene, a 20-meter piece of fishing line, which had a wooden block attached to its end covered with a dough intended to provide weight, was seized as the instrument of the crime. Furthermore, an unexpected search of the same cell also uncovered one syringe, a pair of headphones, and one phone charging device.
Materials for the case are being prepared, and a forensic chemical examination has been initiated.
