Chinese authorities have discovered a total of 13.5 tons of gold bullion in the home of former mayor of Ganzhou, Zhang Qi, during a raid, according to РИА Новости, citing local media outlet powerapple.com.
In addition, unofficial reports indicate that a significant amount of cash was found in a hidden basement of the 57-year-old ex-official's residence. It was later revealed that the former mayor had also concealed ownership of several luxury real estate properties spanning thousands of square meters.
According to media reports, the discovered gold, cash, and art pieces were likely transported using several military trucks. The former official now faces the threat of capital punishment.
