Defense Appeals for Immediate Cessation of Criminal Prosecution Against Gasparyan
Former Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan's preventive measure of a signature not to leave is being contested. This information was shared by his lawyer Tigran Atanesyan in a conversation with Tert.am.
“I have submitted a complaint to the Prosecutor General regarding the decision to impose a preventive measure on Gasparyan. Additionally, a complaint has been filed for the immediate cessation of the criminal prosecution against Vladimir Gasparyan, based on the lack of corpus delicti,” Atanesyan stated.
It should be noted that in the criminal case initiated by the Investigative Committee, Vladimir Gasparyan has been charged under Article 375, Part 2 of the Armenian Criminal Code for abuse of power, which has allegedly caused serious material consequences through negligence.
Atanesyan argued that charging his client under this article is unlawful, as the Criminal Code was amended and this article came into force in 2013. However, according to Atanesyan, the alleged acts attributed to Vladimir Gasparyan took place between 2002 and 2011.
