Large Sum of Money Extorted from Swedish Youths Threatened in Yerevan Club
Cecilia Clark, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden, shared with Hetq about an incident involving her sons that took place at the "Energy" nightclub on St. Gregory the Illuminator Street in Yerevan.
According to Mrs. Clark, three Swedish youths (aged 18-19) who were vacationing in Armenia went to the "Energy" club on the night of July 31 to August 1, ordered 4 beers, 3 cocktails, and 4 shots. When the young men requested the bill before leaving, they were presented with a receipt for 332,000 AMD. Initially, they thought it was a joke, but realizing the seriousness of the situation, they refused to pay the amount, deeming it excessively inflated.
After that, according to Cecilia Clark, the club's security staff and its owner took the boys to the basement and threatened them with a knife, demanding that the youths leave all their money at the club, or they would not be allowed to leave. The boys were forced to leave all their money, totaling 290,000 AMD, at the club and left.
Mrs. Clark stated that throughout the entire incident, a police officer remained silent, watching from near the door. The mother of the youths also sent a letter to the office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, expressing her concerns: "Do you really want such things to happen in your country and capital? I thought you were one of the most hospitable countries in the world. I hope the government will take efforts to close the 'Energy' club, and we hope to receive an apology from them and have our money returned," she wrote in her letter.
In her conversation with Hetq, Cecilia Clark mentioned that a teenage boy had recommended the club to them. "I suspect he has a share of the money that the club makes through scammed tourists," the Swedish woman said.
