A BMW Crashes into a Truck in Ararat Province and Catches Fire; Charred Bodies of the Deceased Recovered
Today, on September 16, a brutal and tragic traffic accident-fire occurred in Ararat Province. Around 04:00 AM, the Ministry of Emergency Situations' rescue service received a call at the 9-11 operational management center reporting that a BMW vehicle and a KamAZ truck with license plate 777 TT 65 had collided on the 59th km of the Yerevan-Meghri highway, within the administrative area of Surenavan village.
According to photographer Gagik Shamshyan, who reported from the scene, a fire broke out in the BMW as a result of the collision. The news outlet shamshyan.com disclosed that a fire brigade from the Ararat regional rescue department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, led by the head of the regional rescue department Murad Margaryan and the unit commander Ashot Mirzoyan, arrived at the scene.
While extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the completely charred bodies of the driver and two passengers in the BMW. Police and investigators clarified that the BMW driver had entered the opposite lane while heading towards Yerevan and collided with the KamAZ, resulting in the fire. Villagers gathered at the scene stated, “The fire spread in seconds. The rescuers arrived within minutes with two fire trucks, but there was nothing they could do. We only learned that three people had burned after the fire was extinguished.”
The deceased are identified as 51-year-old Kristine Martirosyan and 29-year-old Lusine Martirosyan, with the driver of the BMW being Varos Markosyan. The police and investigative department are working to clarify the identities of the drivers and the deceased.
